Alexander McQueen and Kering announced Sean McGirr as the new Creative Director of the House. CEO of Alexander Mcqueen, Grianfilippo Testa expressed how “delighted to welcome Sean McGirr as a creative director. With his experience, personality and creative energy, he will bring a powerful creative language to Alexander McQueen, while building on its unique heritage.”

Sean McGirr was formally the head of the head of the Ready-To-Wear at JW Anderson. He will succeed Sarah Burton who fulfilled her position as the creative director for many years.
Being an Irish international he graduated from Central Saint Martins in London. obtaining a Master of Arts in fashion in 2014 and continued in achieving in his career. From 2014 to 2018 he was a part of Uniqlo’s Creative offices in Tokyo and Paris. Following after that, he joined JW Anderson to do the men’s collections and in time, added womenswear to “his responsibilities.”
Sean McGirr has an exquisite CV and reputation in the fashion industry and is going to continue his career with Alexander McQueen, however being the only Creative Director to have not worked with the late Lee, however, will continue to uphold his name.
CEO of Kering stated, “Alexander McQueen is a House we are passionate about, and we are confident that Sean McGirr will be able to pursue its journey with a new creative impetus. We look forward to opening this new chapter in the history of this unique brand.
Sarah Burton announced that she was leaving the brand only last month, after 13 years at the wheel and 20 years overall, eventually passing the baton to Sean. The fashion industry was waiting with anticipation for them to reveal who was replacing the long-term creative director. She had worked closely with the label’s founder, Lee Alexander McQueen right up until his death.

“I’m so proud of everything I’ve done and of my incredible team at Alexander McQueen” , Burton stated i her departure announcement. Her final collection was dedicated to Lee, “whose wish was always to empower women. She ended her time at Alexander McQueen with a breathtaking show and succeeding in the upmost way, leaving everything she has worked for in the hands of Sean McGirr.
